The Reason Why Yoo Jae Suk, Kang Ho Dong, and Lee Kyung Gyu Still Have a Long Future
Who will take Yoo Jae Suk, Kang Ho Dong, and Lee Kyung Gyu’s place as the next top MC. Most of the variety show MCs are all comedians. Other than the top 3, there’s Shin Dong Yup, Park Mi Sun, Nam Hee Suk, Park Myung Soo, Jung Hyung Don, Seo Kyung Suk, and so on. But after the comedy programs ended, there have not been a place for new comedians to grow from. MBC has ended its “Ha Ddang Sa” long ago, and SBS ended “People who Look for Laugh” right after. Only KBS’s “Gag Concert” remains as the sole comedy program. Even if “Gag Concert” is constantly raking in viewers every week, the trend has switched from traditional comedy programs to real variety and talk shows so the viewer ratings for “Gag Concert” has decreased significantly compared to the ratings during its successful days. The decrease in comedy programs mean that the continuous flow of new comedians will decrease, and therefore the comedians in variety programs will decrease also. For the variety programs, which have tried and failed with announcer and singer MCs, this means a certain end if the current generation of MCs have no follow up potential MCs. Biography
Many have been assuming that the tables would turn in this year’s KBS Entertainment Awards, believing that the long time veteran, Lee Kyung Kyu, would beat Kang Ho Dong after losing for two years straight. Well, they were right, as Lee Kyung Kyu has finally reached the top again!
Beating nominees Kim Byung Man, Yoo Jae Suk, Shin Dong Yup, and last year’s winner, Kang Ho Dong, Lee Kyung Kyu took home the honorable award.
As many of you should know, KBS2TV’s Qualifying Men brought much laughter and joy from their recent choir project. Also bringing tears and emotion to a variety show, viewers were very impressed by the show’s teamwork and quality. Although it could not beat its rival show 1 Night 2 Days in the ‘Best Variety Show Chosen By Viewers’ section, the Daesang won by Lee Kyung Kyu represented all of the cast and staff of ‘Qualifying Men’.
This is also Lee Kyung Kyu’s 30th year since his debut, so lets all give him a round of applause!
