Personal life
Even though Inoue Mao started acting at an early age, she also put priority to her school.She participated in school activities. At 19, Inoue enrolled in Meiji University , studying theater and literature, with her second major as Chinese. She met some friends in school and became close,calling their group 'Candies'. In her last year of college, she concentrated on her studies. In March 2009, she graduated from Meiji University.
Inoue Mao loves badminton, basketball, Japanese dance, music and oil paiting.She also loves animals.She has a pet Boston Terrier named Hug. Because of her love for animals, she would like to be a veterinarian if she is not in the intertainment industry. Her wish came close as she will be playing a vet's nurse in her coming drama "Veterinarian Do Little".She also loves Disneyland a lot.
Career
Dramas and Movies-- Inoue Mao started her career as an actress at a young age of 5. She had been in many dramas since then. The viewers took notice of her in 1999-2003 series of Kids War. In 2005, Mao took the lead role in a drama based on a popular manga Hana Yori Dango, with popolar JE boy band Arashi member Matsumoto Jun, Oguri Shun, Matsuda Shota and Tsuyoshi Abe.The drama became a big hit with viewers demanding a second season. Mao was awarded Best Actress.In 2006 she co-starred in her first movieCheck It Out, Yo!with Hayato Ichihara , Yūta Hiraoka , and Tasuku Emoto . The film was in theaters April 22, 2006. In early 2007, Hana Yori Dango Returns aired which became more hit than the first season. Right after the HYD Returns, Inoue also co-starred in the summer 2007 dramaFirst KisswithCheck It Out, Yo!co-star Hiraoka Yuuta. Her oustanding acting also landed her the lead role as a Maiko-turned Geisha in drama special 'Hanaikusa'. She also costarred with Eji Wentz on a blackbuster movie "Gegege no Kitaro"
In early 2008, she played the lead role as a Princess in a drama special 'Anmitsu Hime' followed by 'Anmitsu Hime 2' in early 2009 where she sang the theme song with Shokotan.After the success of the twoHana Yori Dangodramas, a film was announced in August 2007, just months after the end of the 2007 sequel . It was Inoue's first starring role in a movie.. The movie was released on June 28, 2008. It topped the box office Japan for few consecutive weeks and became 2nd biggest hit movie in 2008.It also became a very big hit not only in Japan but many parts of Asia, bringing a name to Inoue Mao as 10 billion yen actress.
Despite her soaring popularity after the HYDF movie, Mao step back from acting to concentrate on her studies. Right after her graduation in March 2009, she started filming for her second starring role in a movie 'Boku no Hatsukoi wo Kimi ni Sasagu' which was released in theaters in October 2009.Her fantastic portrayal of Mayu has once again proven herself as the movie also became a hit. In April 10,2010,My Darling is a Foreignerwas released in theaters in Japan with Inoue starring opposite Jonathan Sherr .
After 3 years since her last drama,She will reunite withHana Yori Dangoco-star Shun Oguri for the dramaJūi Dolittle(獣医ドリトルVeterinarian Dolittle), which will begin airing in October 2010.She will also star in the 84th asadora dramaOhisama(おひさまThe Sun), portraying a woman who lived through World War II .This will air from March 28 2011 to Sept 24, 2011.
In February 2011, a movie will be released in theaters with Mao to costar known actor Takenouchi Yutaka in a movie "Taiheiyou no kiseki ~Fox to yobareta otoko". Filming took place in Thailand. It was also revealed in late September 2010, that Inoue Mao will star in a movie "Youkame no Semi" which will also be released in 2011..
Magazine and Television Endorsements-- Aside from acting in movies, Inoue has been chosen as the endorser of Mizuho Bank and Chocola BB Eisai series, NTT fleet West and Glico Ice. She also models for magazines.
