Girls' Generation( hangul : 소녀시대, Romanized: Sonyeo Sidae) is a nine-member South Korean girl group formed by SM Entertainment in 2007. The nine members are: Taeyeon , Jessica , Sunny , Tiffany , Hyoyeon , Yuri , Sooyoung , Yoona and Seohyun . They are often referred to asSoShi(소시), orSNSD(mainly outside Korea), the first of which is an abbreviation and the second an acronym of the group's Korean nameSo Nyeo Shi Dae. In China, they are known as 少女時代 (Shàonǚ Shídài; orSiu Nui Si Doiin Hong Kong) and in Japan as 少女時代 (Shōjo Jidai).The group has released two full albums, three mini-albums, and various singles. Their 2009 hit single " Gee " holds the record for being the longest running #1 song on KBS 'sMusic Bank, having held the #1 chart ranking for 9 consecutive weeks.2009 and 2010 also saw the group winning various awards, including consecutive Artist of the Year (Daesang) awards at the Seoul Music Awards , Golden Disk Awards , Melon Music Awards, and the Korean Cultural Entertainment Awards.The group began a foray into the Japanese music scene in late 2010 under Nayutawave Records , a part of Universal Music , with the Japanese remakes of their 2009 Korean hits " Tell Me Your Wish (Genie) " and " Gee ".2010 saw the group reach considerable success in Japan, and solidifying their title as the "National Girl Group" in Korea after winning the prestigious Disk Daesang (Album of the Year) and Artist of the Year at the Golden Disk Awards and Melon Music Awards respectively.The group was certified gold by the RIAJ twice in Japan, while their yearly album sales in Korea surpassed 300,000, a feat which was last achieved by TVXQ in 2008, earning them the tile of the best-selling artist of 2010.

Jay Park says he’s proud of Girls’ Generation

Singer Jay Park has expressed that he felt proud of Girls’ Generation and their U.S. debut. He’s also revealed that he was impressed by how they landed a spot on CBS‘s ‘The Late Show with David Letterman‘, an extremely popular American program. During a recent interview with Star News, Jay Park stated, “A dream that I’ve had since I was a kid was to be on David Letterman’s show. It’s an extremely popular program that American singers want to perform on. Being on the ‘Letterman Show’ in the U.S. is a promotional stop that a lot of singers make. Although it’s not a fancy stage, it has an interesting atmosphere.” He continued, “As I was watching Girls’ Generation, I felt very proud.” And what about Jay Park’s possible U.S. debut? “I definitely do want to debut in the United States,” he said. “If I have free time, I would like to work on English songs. Although I have some future work set with American musicians, I am going to focus on my Korean activities for now.” In related news, Jay Park’s latest album, ‘New Breed‘, has grabbed number one on the iTune’s ‘R&B/Soul Album Charts’.

During their early career, the group were endorsers for several brands such as Elite Uniform,Nexon Bubble Fighter,Samsung and LG .Since 2008 they have been exclusive models for the Goobne Chickenand have filmed several commercials for the brand, recorded jingles for advertising purposes, and modeled for promotional Goobne calendars as well. Goobne Chicken has since become a strong contender in the chicken industry and attribute their success to the group.By mid-2009 the group members were models for over 10 brands and were chosen as one of South Korea's most sought after advertisers in a survey conducted by brand consulting research institute.Several members are solo advertising models such as Seohyun who is a model for Clean and Clear ,Taeyeon who models for A-Solution, a cosmetics brand,Sooyoung, Tiffany and Yuri as models for Biotherm or Yoona who models for S-Oil and Innisfree .Alongside Super Junior , they are also exclusive models to the partly SM Entertainment-owned retail brand SPAO.Endorsing clothing brands, online games,food industries,events, electronics, cosmetics and even products reserved for the top celebrities to endorse such as petroleum and credit cards , the group was considered one of the most sought after models in 2009.

The group continued to be active in advertising in 2010, endorsing brands and products including the Nintendo DSi and Domino's Pizza .In late 2010, a gift certificate company began releasing gift certificates each worth 10,000 won which featured Girls' Generation images on the cards, making them the first celebrities to be featured as such.Popular Korean web portal Daum also began using the group as models while remodeling certain services and search engines in early October 2010, and released Girls' Generation desktop wallpapers and screensavers for promotion, which quickly became popular.A survey conducted in December 2010, saw 409 out of 741 marketing employees choosing Girls' Generation as the model with the most influence over consumers, attributing their positive attention from the public to their vocals, looks and fashion sense.In 2011, Intel Asia announced that the group would become official advertising models for the company, significant not only in the implication that this is the first time Intel has used a model for their advertisements, but that Girls' Generation would represent the globalization of Korean cultural products.On January 18, 2011, Girls' Generation attended the showcase of 'Intel® Core 2nd Generation', unveiling a music video for the song prepared for the product advertisement, "Visual Dreams".
